Oatmeal. Oatmeal paste can help relieve a rash caused by poison ivy or oak. Cook a small amount of oatmeal and, while warm, apply it to the rash. Allow the paste to cool and dry on your skin before removing. An oatmeal bath can also soothe the affected area. Sprinkle oatmeal beneath your faucet so it is directly under the running water. Soak in the water for 15-20 minutes for optimal relief.
Cucumber. Another helpful remedy is to place cucumber slices on the rash. This cool vegetable provides relief from burning and itching. Leave the slices on your skin until they dry. You can also blend the cucumber to make a paste and apply that to the affected area.
Baking soda. Baking soda also provides relief from poison ivy and oak. Use a 3:1 ratio of baking soda to water to make a paste and apply it to the rash. You can also add baking soda to other pastes for further relief.
Apple cider vinegar. You can use apple cider vinegar in a variety of ways to soothe the affected area. Soak a cotton ball in apple cider vinegar and apply it to the rash three to four time a day. You can also make a compress by soaking a clean, cotton rag in an equal mixture of apple cider vinegar and water. Apply it to the rash for 15 to 30 minutes, repeating three to four times a day.
